Is there any way to make strapless dresses work for me?

I have a hard time wearing strapless dresses because they make my shoulders look very broad. I didn't realize this when I was younger, so I have a couple strapless dresses I really like. They're a bit fancy to just throw a cardigan over, any other ideas?

1. Maybe you can play around with colours. Like for example, darker colors make things look smaller, and brighter colors like white make things look bigger. So maybe you can try both of this colors and see which one looks better.! A cardigan looks good! :) In fact, i know of someone who wears cardignans to cover her tattoos haha
2. The new Princess of Monaco has very broad shoulders (she was an Olympic-level swimmer), and she wears strapless or off-the-shoulder dresses. They look great. See below. But little evening shrugs and cropped (short) cardigans are a good solution. These are made to be worn with fancy dresses but to provide some coverage. Many stores sell them in varying designs. They may be sequinned or beaded or embroidered.
