Cheap Party Dresses

Why are all wedding dresses strapless gowns?

If you google images for 'wedding gown' you will see basically the same style dress. Doesn't a bride want to wear what looks best on her, instead of a 'uniform'? Certainly strapless gowns are not for everyone. Are the designers lacking creativity?

  1. Not all are. Mine wasn't.
  2. i have this complaint too. Whatever is in "style" for a year is what they make. One year, strapless is in style..so EVERY designer makes trillions of strapless dresses and maybe only...2 dresses with sleeves! It annoys me. If purple wedding gowns are to be in style next year...then you will see tons and tons and tons of purple dresses and hardly no white dresses. I know this probably won't happen..but just an example. my mom complains about this in regular shopping. She went to Belk the other week to buy some regular shirts...and they ALL had these tiny itty bitty sleeves...made for a woman with spaghetti noodle size arms. She had to go 3 different stores to find a shirt with regular sleeves. It stinks. There should be more variety.
  3. They are going with what is popular. Right now, strapless is popular. All of those dresses can have straps or sleeves added on, so really, you can change them if you want to.
  4. They aren't. You just have to look around.
  5. I know, right?! I would be afraid to walk down the aisle just in case my bust wasn't enough to hold the dress up. I much prefer drop sleeves, or short sleeves... something more substantial. And I'd freeze to death if my wedding were in winter! This style has been "in" for WAYYY too long now... time for a change... time for variety...
  6. Ahhh....the wedding uniform of the early 2000s! It would seem that is all that's available, but if you dig a little, there are other designs.
  7. My opinion, old school that it is, is that one should be circumspect in the wedding gown that is worn. I have seen a large number of revealing gowns worn in a church, to my dismay. My feeling regarding the strapless gowns is that the choice seems to be not a fussy style, cleaner cuts, not a lot of lacy thing-a-ma-bobs hanging everywhere, distracting from the brides' lovely face....
  8. Try David's Bridal. They have a variety of different styles, some for bigger ladies. Best wishes!
  9. I think the designers aren't thinking about what will appeal to some people. I refused to wear a dress that didnt' have straps. It took ALOT of digging and many trips to bridal salons but I did find one.
  10. Strapless gowns are very trendy right now, but bridal stores carry many different styles of gown. Many strapless gowns can even be altered to add sleeves or straps. So yes, you should pick the gown that works for your body and your style, not because it happens to be trendy but because it makes you look like a million bucks.
  11. That is what fashion is all about, conforming to what is currently fashionable. Nothing stops a lady from buying a white dress (evening gown or otherwise) and wearing it to get married, In fact, it usually reduces the price by at least half if you can simply buy white shoes, hair accessories, etc, and skip all the overpriced baloney with 'wedding' or 'bridal' on the label. The only difference between white beach flip flops @ $12 and Bridal Sandals @ $49 is a few sequins and $37.

  13. That is the most popular trend at the moment. I got married this past May. I didn't want strapless. I'm very self concious about my arms. I looked around at smaller local boutiques. I found a beautiful gown with short sleeves. It will take time to find. I went to several bridal stores before I found a gown with sleeves.
