Cheap Party Dresses

Would you risk this (dress question)?

Okay, so here's my situation. I found my perfect dress online, only to find out the next day that it is discontinued and I can only order it until Oct. 3 (new and in my size) but the lady at the corporate office emailed me and told me that she can offer the sample they have (they only have ONE) for $1200 (reg. price $2400) only the dress would have to be altered down to my size because its a sample, so alterations might be expensive. Another thing is I live in the middle of nowhere in a small town, so trying it on isn't an option before getting the discounted dress. If I don't jump on it now then then it is going to a sale they are having for their discontinued dresses. What should I do? Even if I want to buy it new in my size I have no idea how I'd try it on without traveling, and it won't be available after Oct. 3 because it's discontinued.

  1. ORDER IT! And yes I would risk it!
  2. In my opinion, I won't buy any clothing item unless I can try it on first. With my body type, I can find something that I absolutely love on the rack, but it doesn't work for my body. Now with something like a wedding dress, something that is so special you only wear it once, and most women want it to be perfect, I wouldn't even dream of ordering online if I couldn't try the dress on first. Here is a possible solution for you. Print out the pictures of the dress and bring them to a local seamstress. You might be able to find someone who can recreate the dress for less. It might not be the same materials, or identical in every way, but I've seen recreations that look very much like the original design.
  3. This is just my opinion, but I would either wait to get it on sale or I would sacrifice for the dress by ordering it and do the alterations. Also, if the alterations are going to be expensive and over your budget for a dress then you would seriously leave this dress and find another that is just as beautiful. I would not let a dress stress me out.
  4. If it were me, I wouldn't. Let's assume that this dress is going to cost you, best case, $1700 ($1200 + tax + shipping + alterations). For that much money, you can take a trip to the largest city near you, check out a couple of bridal salons, and find another perfect dress. I would be leery about buying a sample unseen. You don't know who has handled the dress with dirty hands or how it's been stored. Wouldn't it suck if you got it and found out that the train had been stepped on by a careless photographer, or that appliques or beading were damaged because someone just shoved it back in the bag after the shooting? You're working with a large enough dress budget that I am absolutely certain that you will find a great dress that you know will come to you in pristine condition. Good luck.
  5. Don't order it! There are so many dresses out there that are perfect and that don't cost as much. It is your wedding day and it is suppose to be perfect but you can have a perfect dress that will fit you and not cost so much. So just take your time and look for a perfect dress.
  6. I would not order the dress. I have seen things in a magazine before that I really loved but then when I tried it on I didn't like it on me. I have heard other brides talking about what they picked on in a bridal magazine what they actually bought were two different things. I just would not risk that kind of money.
  7. IF YOU CAN GET A ASSURMENT THAT YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT THEN GO FOR IT.
  8. 1200 is still a lot to spend on something that might end up being a flop, check out ebay!
  9. Sorry, I would not risk it. I'd never purchase a wedding gown online. I know plenty of brides do, but I just could not. I would have to try it on first.
  10. well if it is only a size or maybe two bigger then yes but if it is 3 or more sizes dont get it because altering it down that much well compromise the dress structure, even sometime something two sizes two big can compromise the dress if you alter it down
  11. NO you don't want to risk that much and not have the dress of your dreams.Maybe you would be happy with it and maybe not.No dress can be altered more than one dress size and still have the exact lines of the original.I am a seamstress,No matter how it fits you may either lose or gain weight,it happens. So my advise is keep looking and don't buy anything you can't try on first.
